Our Forever Friends & Families

Our Service Recipients Are Saying...

Dear Bruce and Mary,

When we first met we were not sure if Toby would make it as a service dog, he was labeled as 'aggressive dog' and if I continued to work with him he would be taken away from me, or get put down. You guys have helped me realize the difference between aggression and reactivity which has helped me understand Toby tremendously. You've also given me knowledge and strength to stand up for myself and Toby in ways I wasn't able to do before. I think sometimes Toby wasn't always sure what to think of other people, or wasn't completely comfortable out in public. But now I look at Toby and I think he's a lot more comfortable and a lot more trusting of other people walking past, he even does off leash! Toby wouldn't be the dog he is today if we didn't work together.

When we first met I was 17 turning 18 and I had been doing mostly self service dog training. I was also working with his old trainer until some problems occurred with both of you guys helping me with. I appreciate the nights that Mary would listen to me and tell me everything would be ok. The other situation you guys helped tremendously was with my old school. I don't think we would've won that court case if we didn't have you guys by our side. You taught me a lot about service dog laws and rules, what people can and can't ask, what they can and can't do, and I'm glad you were able to help us hold them accountable for their actions.

When we first met I had Toby for about a year and a half. He knew some tasks but not many. I used Toby, but not his best ability. I knew that Toby was capable of so much more than what he was already doing. You guys have helped me learn new tasks that he can do to help me through tough times. My favorite tasks are:
     - Go find Madison
     - Orbit
     - When I'm crying he interrupts
     - When I try to self harm he interrupts
     - Deep pressure therapy
     - Block and Cover
     - Touch
     - Paws up

I know that I haven't always been the easiest to work with, but I'm truly glad you guys stayed by my side. I appreciate everything you guys have taught and done for me. Thank you guys so much. - Nov 2022 - Madison B.

Bauer Family Goldens began my relationship with them doing research. They thought it was necessary that I established my physical and emotional medical needs before I actually selected a puppy. Once that had been done and my medical paperwork was completed, I began reviewing pups, mothers, sire and determining what my best choices would be for my life. Bruce and Mary were very respectful to all of my wants and needs. I enjoyed selecting my pup and determining exactly what pathway would work best for myself as well as my puppy. We enjoyed beginning with Obedience I and then worked our way into Obedience II. Bruce as well as their daughter Breanna spent a great deal of time walking, sitting, heeling as well as all commands with myself and my puppy to train both of us together. It was a great experience. Bauer Family Goldens are a very flexible and respectful regarding anything to do with finances, scheduling training and true balance throughout the entire work program. I am very grateful my dog is a great success and life is good. - July 2, 2019 ~ Stephen Mark Davis

Bauer Family Goldens were literal life savers. My medical conditions were numerous, seizures being my top concern. I wasn't capable of going to a school for service training, so I searched for a trainer who was qualified and capable of coming to me. Bruce Bauer helped me select my pup from their summer litter. She was precious. He began her obedience training prior to her coming home. She learned quickly and carried great learning abilities. I was so touched by her sense of companionship. My health took a sharp direction. I was seizuring more and more, but there was a difference; she would alert me just before the seizure would start. Bruce stepped in training her how to alert me. I could have a moment to secure myself, sit down or lay down as the seizure would approach.  My Golden is great at stress reduction. She caresses me, distracts my negativity and plays with me to lift my spirits. Our training mission is an ongoing learning experience we share with glory. My individualism has been restored thanks to Bauer Family Goldens; I will never feel alone again with my servicer and this family on my side. - January 26, 2019 ~ Kathi Dexter
